MCOM 581 Research Project II: Action Research Implementation

Summary

Between the ages of eight and eighteen, the average child spends 6.5 hours with media each day. If multimedia is factored into the equation, the number increases to 8.5 hours per day (Ellison & Wu, 2008). Web 2.0 offers writing educators a multitude of options to combine technology with meaningful pedagogy in online, face-to-face, and blended methods of instruction (Shih, 2011). Blogs, Wikispaces, ePortfolios, discussion boards, and social media already flood students everyday lives on a personal level. What, if any, educational value does Web 2.0 provide in a college writing classroom? This quantitative study provides data reporting students’ perceptions of Web 2.0 tools integrated into a college English writing course.

Reflection

Reading research and constructing a well-written research paper is an important skill for any student cultivate. Research II gave me the opportunity to write as well as implement my own research study. I'm very passionate about Literature and writing. This study allowed me to me to combine my passion for writing with technology and question if one can help the other. It was such an interesting experience reading my survey results and finding out what students perceptions were about using Web 2.0 in an English classroom.
